March 2024 marks a significant milestone for Southern Crossing Animal Hospital. We are proudly celebrating our fifth year under the ownership of Dr. Carondelet Nollner. Although our roots trace back to the 1970s as Greene Animal Hospital, the past five years have been a journey of transformation, growth, and dedication to providing the highest standard of care for our community’s pets.

New owner, same commitment to exceptional pet care

After 20 years at Greene Animal Hospital, Dr. Nollner took the reins and rebranded the practice as Southern Crossing Animal Hospital in 2019, embarking on a mission to create a modern, state-of-the-art facility that prioritizes the physical and emotional well-being of our patients and their families. Today, we commemorate half a decade of service under the Southern Crossing name by reflecting on our journey and the milestones we have reached to become today’s most trusted community resource.

New facility, same dedication to growth and improvement

At the heart of our celebration is the inauguration of our brand new, 4,500-square-foot veterinary hospital, which stands as a testament to our commitment to excellence. Completed 30 yards from our backyard in 2023, our cutting-edge facility has been meticulously designed to cater to our patients and their owners. We not only improved the building’s design but also upgraded our equipment, which now includes state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment such as digital X-ray and ultrasound.

With our new facility, whose design is based on Fear Free principles, we aim to create a stress-free environment for every pet at every visit. We now have separate entrances for cats and dogs and spacious, comfortable waiting areas. In addition, our facility boasts separate boarding areas for cats and dogs to improve their physical comfort and emotional well-being during their stay.

Another of our new hospital’s hallmarks is the dedicated intensive care unit (ICU) room where we can provide specialized care for patients recovering from surgery or facing critical health issues. The ICU is also a quiet, safe space where pets can recover in peace.

Our new hospital also includes a comfort room for families facing difficult end-of-life decisions about their pets. In this private room, families can re-live a lifetime of memories about their pets, and cherish their relationship and their pet’s last moments, away from the hustle and bustle of the main hospital.

New faces, same passionate veterinary team

Our commitment to excellence extends to our exceptional team of veterinary professionals. From humble beginnings with two veterinarians and four support staff members, we are now a team of three experienced veterinarians and 11 dedicated support staff. Each team member shares a passion for animal welfare and is committed to providing compassionate care.

New achievements, same devotion to continual education

In July 2023, we achieved a significant milestone when our new facility was AAHA-accredited. This recent accreditation is a testament to our unwavering dedication to meet the highest standards of veterinary care and, coupled with our previous 36 years as an AAHA-accredited hospital, underscores our ongoing commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.

Central to our approach is our commitment to low-stress handling and care practices. Seventy-five percent of our team members are Fear Free certified, proof that we prioritize our patients’ emotional wellbeing, and thus improve their physical health. And, our commitment to Fear Free methods is further proof that our goal always is to create positive veterinary experiences that foster trust and strengthen the bond between pets, their owners, and our veterinary team.

In addition to her practice-wide achievements, Dr. Nollner received a personal award—the 2020 Tennessee Outstanding Practitioner of the Year award. Presented biennially, this award recognizes practitioners who have made significant advancements in the veterinary field over the past decade. The Tennessee Veterinary Medical Foundation Board of Directors selects the recipient based on nominations from colleagues and criteria that include setting exemplary standards, innovative techniques, and a strong track record of client and colleague rapport. Dr. Nollner’s outstanding achievements in these standards truly exemplify the spirit of this esteemed accolade.
